Frequently Asked Questions on MP3 Players
Music Formats
In the world of audio there are many different formats to save a sound file. They all have various ways of compression and some are specific to certain software. The most common today are MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) & WMA (Windows Media Audio). Our players only support these two formats.
Formatting
When using your MP3 player for the first time you should format it. Formatting prepares the disk (storage medium) for any reading or writing. It erases all information on the disk, and tests for any bad sectors or errors. Below are the steps for formatting your player: -Connect the disk storage (MP3 player) to your computers USB port. If the computer pops up a window asking what do you want windows to do? Click cancel. -Right click on My Computer and click on Explore. Look for the drive Removable Disk (E:) [The letter drive may vary depending on your computer] This is your MP3 player. -Right click on the drive Removable Disk (E:) and click FormatˇK A small window will pop up displaying Format Removable Disk (E:) Click Start. Read the warning and click OK. Format is complete. This procedure can be done occasionally to erase all data on the disk storage.
Q: What is MP3?
A: MP3 is an audio compression codec that allows users to dramatically reduce the file sizes songs, speeches, and monkey sounds (yes, you can find them on the Internet) without noticeable loss of quality. MP3 stands for Motion Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3), and, due to its ability to compress songs, it became de facto standard for music distribution over the web.
Q: How do I download a MP3 file and listen to it?
A: Nextar encourages our customers to download music legally through different legal music download sites. Most websites will guide you through the process of how to download their music. Please follow their procedures carefully and read their system requirements. * Before you download any software or music, carefully review the site's system requirements for your computer.
Q: How does MP3 work?
A: Actually, it's quite simple (in concept, that is). The MP3 codec gets rid of the parts of audio that you and I cannot hear. Our human ears are quite limited in that, after hearing something loud, we can't hear quiet sounds for short period of time. The MP3 codec calculates and deletes that part. This is how MP3 achieves its great compression ratio without apparent quality loss.
Q: What is TFT?
A: A display screen made with TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology is a liquid crystal display (LCD), common in notebook computers, that has a transistor for each pixel (the tiny elements that control the illumination of your display). Having a transistor at each pixel means that the current that triggers pixel illumination can be smaller and therefore can be switched on and off more quickly.
TFT is also known as active matrix technology (as contrasted with "passive matrix" which does not have a transistor at each pixel). A TFT or active matrix display is more responsive to change. For example, when you move your mouse across the screen, a TFT display is fast enough to reflect the movement of the mouse cursor. (With a passive matrix display, the cursor temporarily disappears until the display can "catch up.")
Q. How do I copy/transfer files to my MP3 player?
A. There are many ways to copy /transfer music to your player. Hereˇ¦s a common and simple way to do this process using Windows Explorer. Follow the instructions below: -Connect the disk storage (MP3 player) to your computers USB port. If the computer pops up a window asking what do you want windows to do? Click cancel. -Right click on My Computer and click on Explore. A split window will pop up and display the contents and drives on your computer. Look for the drive Removable Disk (E:) [The letter drive may vary depending on your computer] This is your MP3 player. -Next, drop down My Documents and click on the My Music folder. If you store your music files in a different location then find that folder. -Take a file from the My Music folder or where ever you store your music files, click on the music file drag and drop it into the E: Removable Disk on the left of the window. A window will pop up and display the progress of the copying. Repeat the process until your player is full. You have completed the file copy/transfer process!
Q: How do I convert MP3 files To WAV files?
A: Most MP3 players will convert MP3 format files to WAV. With Winamp, press CTRL+P to bring up the Preferences menu. From there, select Output in the left-hand window, then select "Nullsoft Disk Writer Plug-In". Press the Configure button to choose which directory you want your WAV files saved in. After you do this, every time you "play" a file in Winamp, it will actually output the file to a WAV file in your chosen directory. To return to actually playing files, bring Preferences up again, select Output and "Nullsoft Wave Out Plug-In", which is your normal sound playing output plug-in. If you use a program other than Winamp, check the menus and look for "Options" or "Preferences".
Q: What is CSTN color display?
A: Short for Color Super-Twisted Nematic, CSTN is an LCD technology developed by Sharp Electronics Corporation. Unlike TFT, CSTN is based on a passive matrix, which is less expensive to produce. The original CSTN displays developed in the early 90's suffered from slow response times and ghosting. Recent advances in the technology, however, have made CSTN a viable alternative to active-matrix displays. New CSTN displays offer 100ms response times, a 140 degree viewing angle, and high-quality color rivaling TFT displays - all at about half the cost. A newer passive-matrix technology called High-Performance Addressing (HPA) offers even better response times and contrast than CSTN.
Q: What is DRM?
A: DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management, a broad term used to describe a number of techniques for restricting the use and transfer of digital content. DRM is used in a number of media, but is most commonly found in video and music files. DRM10 is upgraded from DRM9 and it is much more protective of music copyrights. Further, you can find a version of the Windows Media Player program on your PC, such WMP9 or WMP10. You can play music with DRM10 protection on WMP9 & 10; however, you can only play DRM9-protected music on WMP9, not in WMP10.
